MALIBU HIGH SCHOOL

Student Internships

Most résumé lines are things you watched happen. These aren't.

Every year, the Malibu Education Foundation runs and participates in real operations — a tree lot that funds all four public schools, a community race that brings the whole town out. We don't need students to watch. We need students to run things.

These are paid internships with actual responsibility: lead volunteers, solve real problems, own real outcomes. You'll walk away with a stipend, a certificate, and — for strong performers — a recommendation letter that means something because you earned it.

We believe the students who give the most to this community are the ones who get the most out of it. That's not a slogan here. It's how these roles are built.

Assistant Tree Lot Manager

The Tree Lot Assistant Manager internship is a structured work-based learning experience designed to give a Malibu High School student real responsibility in a live operation: MEF's annual tree lot, which serves hundreds of families and is a cornerstone fundraiser supporting staff and programs across all four Malibu public schools.

The intern works alongside the Tree Lot Manager, Parker Kaplan, and MEF staff to lead daily operations, coordinate volunteers, and support two major community events. This is not a shadowing role — the intern is a working member of the team with real ownership of outcomes.

Malibu Moves Student Ambassador

Malibu Moves is a community race created and produced by Erica Segal, with MEF serving as a charity partner. The event brings the Malibu community together around fitness, school spirit, and support for Malibu organizations.

The Malibu Moves Student Ambassador internship is a structured work-based learning experience designed to give an MHS student a multi-month look at how a community event is built, promoted, and produced — and a real role in driving school participation. The Ambassador works alongside Erica Segal, Kim Retts, and Karin Al-Hardan to recruit student volunteers, promote the event across all four Malibu public schools, and support event week from the inside.

This is a long-arc internship: it starts with learning, builds through outreach and recruitment, and culminates in a hands-on event experience.
