At the MEF Gala, we proudly announced two special dedications honoring individuals whose passion and service have shaped generations of Malibu students:
The Mike Mulligan Pool Deck:
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, the current and future pool deck at Malibu High School is now dedicated to Mike Mulligan, who launched the school’s water polo program with the Class of 1996 — Malibu High’s very first graduating class. For nearly three decades, Coach Mulligan has inspired, mentored, and uplifted students through athletics, teamwork, and heart..
The Charlie de Garmo Jacaranda Tree
In the heart of the Malibu Middle School quad now blooms a Jacaranda tree honoring Charlie de Garmo, who taught math and computer science from 1965 to 1984, back when the school was Malibu Park Junior High. The tree was transplanted from Charlie’s beloved Point Dume home — the same walk he made every day to teach. Every June, during his birth month, it will blossom in brilliant purple as a living tribute to his legacy.
