A Night to Honor, Remember, & Rise Together
Big Rock Burning is an intimate 30-minute documentary that explores the resilient spirit of Malibu’s Big Rock community as they rebuild from the ashes of the devastating Palisades Fire — one of the worst wildfires in U.S. history. The film captures the raw aftermath of a harrowing night when residents were left to fend for themselves after officials deemed the area too dangerous to enter. With no help coming, neighbors became first responders: some fought flames with garden hoses, while others fled through walls of fire. Executive produces include Mark and Marilou Hamill, Ricki Lake and Oscar-winning director Bryan Fogel.
This evening benefit will support the Malibu Education Foundation, which funds vital staff and staffed programs across all four Malibu public schools — at a time when it’s needed more than ever. The Palisades Fire was the third Malibu fire in a single school year (2024–25), leading to over 19 days of lost learning. While 230 students and staff lost their homes — representing 20% of our school population — every student was impacted.
